Nkana Fc have described their relegation from first to 3 position on the FAZ Super Division log standings as a minor setback.
The record 12-time Zambian champions drew 1-1 away to mid-table Lusaka Dynamos on February 9 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka to swap places with Green Eagles who beat hosts Green Buffaloes in the lunchtime kickoff at the same venue.
“We needed to lead the table as we had planned but we have drawn,”We want to be champions and we still have many games to come and we will bounce back, “said Nkana assistant coach Kaunda Simonda.
Despite dropping to 3rd place Nkana are only a point behind the new leaders Eagles who have played a game less and are on 40 points with 14 league games still to be played.
The Kitwe based side are tied on 39 points with 2nd placed Forest Rangers whom they host on Saturday at Nkana Stadium. Kickoff at 15:00.
“We will plan for the next fixture, it is a must-win and nothing else will do in that game, “concluded Simonda.
Nkana last won the league back in 2013 and their best finish since then was a runners-up berth in 2018.
