The nominees for the Ligue 1 African player of the year have been revealed.
Every year, fans are afforded an opportunity to vote for the best African France-based player and this year’s list is full of some heavy hitters who have been doing well this season with their respective clubs.
REINILDO (MOZAMBIQUE, LOSC LILLE)
The defender has been impressive for Lille this season. He has been part of a rock solid backline that has kept a number of clean sheets to steer the club to the of the Ligue 1 standings.
TINO KADEWERE (LYON, ZIMBABWE)
Arguably one of Africa’s breakout stars this season, the Zimbabwean has netted 10 league strikes and assisted another three in 30 appearances for Lyon so far.
TOKO EKAMBI (LYON, CAMEROON)
Ekambi has been the main man upfront for Olympique Lyon this season.
The Cameroon international has 12 goals and five assists to his name so far this season.
FARID BOULAYA (METZ, ALGERIA)
Boulaya has been shining for Metz this season. Mostly played as a creative midfielder behind two target strikers, the Algerian has contributed to 10 goals this season for Metz (five goals and five assists).
ALEXANDRE OUKIDJA (METZ, ALGERIA)
The only goalkeeper in the list, Oukidja has been instrumental in between the sticks for Metz.
SEKO FOFANA (RC LENS, IVORY COAST)
Fofana is an important member of a rejuvenated Lens side that has risen up the ranks in France’s top flight. Against all odds, the club has climbed up to fifth spot on the log standings.
NAYEF AGUERD (RENNES, MOROCCO)
The centre back has been a rock at the back for Rennes this season which has earned him a place at the table with the big boys in the division.
ANDY DELORT (MONTPELLIER, ALGERIA)
Delort has been a consistent figure in the Montpellier attack for the past few seasons. He has 10 goals and eight assists to his name so far this season.
IDRISSA GANA GUEYE (PSG, SENEGAL)
A consistent figure in coach Mauricio Potchetino’s midfield this season, Gueye is one of the best holding midfielders in the entire African continent.
Since signing for the Parisians from Everton, he has done well for the club and helped them clinch the title last season.
BOULAYE DIA (REIMS, SENEGAL)
Dia is Africa’s breakout star in France this season. The striker has netted 14 goals and laid one assist in 29 games.
He is attracting interest from some of the best clubs in Europe.
