SuperSport United starlet Gape Moralo reckons that his side has shown a great character throughout the 2020/21 DStv Premiership campaign despite all the challenges brought by Covid-19.
The 21-year-old midfielder insists the previous season as opposed to this past season were different because of the pandemic as they had to adjust to a lot of things.
“This past season we had to prioritize and our health will always come first. We did find the balance but it was challenging at times. From time to time we had to undergo some tests and this would result in the team missing some of the players because of Covid-19,” he told the club’s official website.
Moralo was promoted to Matsatsantsa’s first team in August 2020 from the club’s reserve team.
However, the youngster struggled to get game time at the Tshwane-based outfit last season, having only featured in one game across all competitions.
“I think I need to be a little bit patient. Not everything is going to happen at one go. So yes, patience is what I’m having going into the new season. And I’m confident my time will come. I just need to keep on working hard, stay dedicated, discipline and persevere,” he said.
“The technical team told me to keep on working hard and stay disciplined. I’ve been conducting myself very well and they told me it’s going to work for me very well in the future.”
Luckily, the promising central midfielder became an instrumental member of the SuperSport Diski Challenge side, where he caught the eye of the senior team head coach Kaitano Tembo when he got promoted.
“As for myself, I did feature for the Diski Challenge side and I think few of the reasons why we didn’t do so well this past season is that we had a relatively new team and it was also made up of young players. But I think the performances were good and in most cases they just couldn’t get a good result. But I’m confident they’ll do well in the coming season. I think the squad has gained a little bit of experience, especially the young players,” concluded Moralo.
