Following the announcement of South Africa’s U23 squad set to face Egypt on June 10 and 13 in Cairo, coach David Notoane expressed his “disappointment” about the cancellation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) tournament.
The UAE tournament was scheduled to start from 5-11 June 2021, however, it was called off due to COVID-19 related issues.
“We are disappointed with the cancellation of the UAE tournament because it was an exciting prospect,” said Notoane.
“But I am happy that we got to secure two games against our North African brothers Egypt.”
The Amaglug-glug mentor is expected to announce his final squad for the Tokyo Olympics later this month.
Notoane has made adjustments from his squad that was supposed to go to the UAE because of the DStv Premiership coming to an end this weekend.
“We made some changes to the squad that was going to the UAE because with the Premier Soccer League only completing on Saturday, 5 June 2021 we will have all the selected players available,” he says in conclusion.
