Rushine de Reuck has been identified by TS Galaxy defender Thabo Nthethe as the best defender in South Africa with the former Mamelodi Sundowns seasoned centre-back describing the Maritzburg United defender as “exceptional and calm”.
De Reuck has played a vital role in helping ‘The Team of Choice’ concede the second least number of goals in the Absa Premiership this season, 17, joint with leaders Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits.
Nthethe, who’s recently joined second-tier outfit Galaxy, is backing De Reuck to win the defender of the season award.
“For me [Motjeka] Madisha and the boy from Maritzburg … De Reuck have been exceptional this season. But If I were to choose one, I’d go for De Reuck,” said Nthethe as quoted by Sowetan.
Madisha recently won back to back Man of the Match awards against Stellenbosch FC in a League game and Highlands Park in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal.
The Sundowns defender has been brilliant throughout the season and forms part of the ‘Brazilians’ back four that has only conceded 15 goals in the League in 21 matches – the best defensive record so far in the PSL.
That boy [De Reuck] knows football. He is very calm yet vocal in organising things at the back. He always wins one-against-one battles,” added the former Bloemfontein Celtic captain and Bafana Bafana defender Nthethe.
As confirmed by the PSL, matches scheduled to take place this week have been suspended until further notice due to the coronavirus.
“The PSL will hold a Board of Governors meeting (all 32 members of the PSL) on Thursday, 19 March to discuss all the options and the way forward. The PSL is consulting various stakeholders including Minister of Sport, Sponsors and partners,” reads the PSL statement.
