Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler has revealed his wish to keep midfielder Phumlani Ntshangase beyond his loan spell.
Ntshangase was loaned out by Bidvest Wits at the beginning of the season after he fell out of favour with coach Gavin Hunt. Ntshangase’s contract with The Clever Boys lapses at the end of current season.
Tinkler, who worked with Ntshangase in Wits’s junior team, wants to have the stocky midfielder permanently.
“That is the plan (to keep him). That’s all in the process. He is very important because he is a team player. I’ve known him since he was 14 years of age. I brought him to Wits as a development player. So he has all the qualities I know that I want in the team,” said Tinkler.
The 49-year-old mentor also has to decide on Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Jeremy Brockie who’s still struggling to regain his form that made him one of the fearsome strikers in the Absa Premiership.
Tinkler has kept his faith in the 32-year-old New Zealander despite criticism from Maritzburg fans.
