Nurkovic to return in two weeks

Serbian striker Samir Nurkovic is expected to return to training for Kaizer Chiefs in two weeks’ time.

Nurkovic, who was the club’s top goal scorer for the 2019/20 campaign has been sidelined with a groin injury which has kept him out of active competition for two months as he has missed Chiefs’ six opening matches so far this sseason.

He underwent surgery on his groin following the final game of last season in the bio bubble against Baroka and has been missed by the Amakhosi new head coach Gavin Hunt as his men are struggling to score goals.

The Glamour Boys have struggled in Nurkovic’s absence, winning just two of their last six matches in all competitions while netting only just three goals in the process.

“Samir Nurkovic is reported progressing well and the medical team are anticipating his return to the training fields in two weeks’ time. The striker is recovering from a surgery that has seen him miss the start of this season,” said Chiefs in a statement released on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Soweto giants also confirmed that defender Reeve Frosler will be out for two months after sustaining a knee injury in the club’s recent 2-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates.

“Frosler was seen hobbling off the field and substituted in the 29th minute of the MTN8 Cup semifinal match against archrivals Orlando Pirates on Sunday, 8th November. He was subsequently withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad due to play in the Cameroon Afcon qualifiers this weekend,” reads the statement.

“Following the medical examination, the fullback cum midfielder underwent MRI which confirmed he will be sidelined for 8 weeks.”

Keletso Sifama, who was out for the last two matches against Pirates and TS Galaxy due to a minor ankle injury has returned to training.

“The young striker has recovered, and the medical team have given him all clear to resume full training.”

Amakhosi will face Golden Arrows in their next DStv Premiership encounter on Saturday, 21 November at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
