Kaizer Chiefs are not going to put any pressure on hitman Samir Nurković to return to the squad firing on all cylinders, says ‘Amakhosi’ defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele.
Nurković, who has missed the start of the current DStv Premiership campaign through injury, is part of the Chiefs traveling squad and is in line to make his first appearance of the 2020/21 season when Chiefs take on Primeiro De Agosto in the Caf Champions League first round second leg match at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Tuesday.
The Serbian forward returns to the Chiefs squad amid glaring goalscoring woes and Mphahlele is optimistic that Nurkovic will add the much-needed threat in front of goal in Angola after the first leg ended goalless at FNB Stadium last month.
“We should have won that game [first leg tie] easily with 3 or 4 nil. We missed a lot of chances and at this moment in time we would appreciate anyone who can come in and score goals for us,” said Mphahlele.
“We know what Samir is capable of and we are not going to put pressure on Samir to say you are back now you have to score goals for us.
“As long as he comes in and plays for the team, even if he gives the other guys to score like we have Khama [Billiat] who is capable of scoring, we have [Leonardo] Castro, Lazarous [Kambole], [Dumisani] Zuma, Tower [Eric Mathoho] as well.”
Nurkovic enjoyed an incredible debut campaign in South Africa – netting 14 goals and registered six assists in 31 games across all competitions with Chiefs missing out on the Premiership title on the last day of the season.
“So we are not going to put much burden on him, we also want to give him space, we know he has been out for too long, so we are not expecting miracles from him,” added the Chiefs defender.
“But he has been doing well at training and I just hope that he continues even in the games but like I said we all know what Samir can do.
“If he gets a chance he is going to bury it and everybody is happy to have Samir back because we know how important he is to our team.”
