Nyirenda ready to face the consequences

With yet another coach in the Premier Soccer League having hit the road, it brings to 6 the number of coaches who have parted ways with their clubs with just 9 games into the season.

Former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy is the latest casualty after being fired by Cape Town City on Monday following a 9-game winless streak.

And the one man who is aware that his future hangs in the balance due to his team’s poor results, Wedson Nyirenda, has praised McCarthy for a good job at the ‘Citizens’.

Nyirenda has admitted that just like McCarthy, his job is not safe at all, with Baroka currently in 14th spot.

“We are talking about a seasoned icon in football and he has just come into coaching, he has done very well,” Nyirenda told FARPost.co.za.

“I have no doubt he is a good coach and it is so sad to lose a colleague in the industry. I think a coach like Benni deserves better.

“Football being what it is we are in this industry as coaches to give results, performance only can not save your job. We here (at Baroka) we are not having results, and anything can happen, so we are ready to face things that come with not having the results,” he said.

“You cannot win the league with saying you played well, you win the league with putting the ball at the back of the net and defending well.

“You get the results and then you are ok so if such things come, I think we understand it. We have been in the industry for a long time and we understand it is only fair that a team get the results.”

Cavin Johnson is one of the coaches that have been dismissed this season, but he could be joining Cape Town City.
