Maritzburg United forward Gabriel Nyoni has issued a public apology to Cape Town City goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh following the injury incident on Friday night.

Nyoni was given a straight red card during the 1-1 draw at Harry Gwala Stadium Stadium following a dangerous tackle on Leeuwenburgh, who was subsequently replaced by Sage Stephens in the 39th minute.

The Zimbabwean took to Twitter on Saturday morning to wish the Dutch Keeper a speedy recovery.

I pray and wish Peter Leeuwenburgh a quick recovery. I apologize for the misjudgement i did on the pitch which led to his injury and am sorry that he couldn’t finish the match because of it. I also stretch my apologies to his family, friends and Club,” read the tweet.
