ON THIS DAY: SA Football lost Madigage

On this day 8 years ago, the South African football fraternity lost one of the loyal servants of the game, Thomas ‘Tommy’ Madigage.

Madigage who was the Bafana Bafana assistant coach at the time, died of a car accident after he hit a donkey on the R37 between Polokwane and Burgersfort, Limpopo.

During his playing career, Madigage, who would have been turning 50 next month, played for clubs such as Arcadia Shepherds, Jomo Cosmos, FC Zurich (Switzerland) and SuperSport United.

He earned four caps for Bafana Bafana.

In his coaching career, Madigage worked as an assistant coach at DStv Premiership side SuperSport United under Coach Pitso Mosimane and later Gavin Hunt.

He was assistant coach to Gordon Igesund at the national team during his time of passing.
