Fenerbahce midfielder Osayi Samuel has opened up about scoring his first goal for the Turkish club.
Samuel spoke after he netted for the giants in a 3-0 win against Konyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig. The Nigerian started and played 70 minutes for the Yellow Canaries before being substituted by coach Erol Bulut.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he expressed his joy at finally breaking his duck and vowed to take the same mentality into every game.
“I feel very happy today that I personally scored. It was my first goal.
“I try to play very seriously every game I play. When I play, I try to do more, I try to improve myself. This goal I scored has given me confidence. I think I can do more.
“The more I play, the better I want to show what kind of player I am. We performed well as a team. Especially after we scored two goals, we also showed how much we wanted the game as a team.
“But after the second goal, we backed off a little bit. The opponent put pressure on us in that sense. We want to do better and continue well with a better performance in the next game.”
The win boosted Fenerbahce’s title hopes as they moved to third position on the table with 58 points from 28 games played so far. Konyaspor, on the other hand, slipped to 12th spot with 32 points from 27 matches.
It’s been a close race at the top of the table with Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas all gunning for top spot. Besiktas lead the pack with 60 points followed closely by Galatasaray and Fenerbahce who are both on 58 points. Trabzonspor and Alanyospor complete the top five of the division.
The Yellow Canaries will now shift focus to Genclerbirligi on Sunday.
