Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso has provided an update on Victor Osimhen’s injury situation.
In November 2020, the Nigerian picked up a shoulder injury while on international duty with the Super Eagles as they faced Sierra Leone in an AFCON 2021 qualification double header.
Osimhen has been undergoing rehabilitation for the past two months.
Two weeks ago, the 22-year-old was in hot water for breaching Covid-19 protocols and attending a surprise party organised for him in Lagos by friends and family. After returning from Nigeria, the former Wolfsburg forward tested positive for the coronavirus which left the club’s board of directors very unhappy with him, but Gattuso stood by him after he issued an apology.
Osimhen broke into the scene when he dominated the Belgian Jupiler Pro League and got signed by Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille in the 2019/20 season. In his first season at Lille he scored an impressive 13 league goals for the club while also getting a few in Europe.
A number of clubs across Europe battled for his signature, but Napoli managed to convince him to put pen to paper on a long-term deal with them.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Gattuso gave some positive feedback about the striker’s situation saying he has made a lot of progress. “In the last few days he is better, even the doctors give me comforting news,” said Gattuso.
“He has started running well again and we will evaluate when he can get back to his best,” he added.
The Italian legend is known for his affection and belief in the striker, his return to action will be a big boost for him as the Serie A season continues.
