If there is one thing Ovidy Karuru doesn’t lack on the football pitch, it’s confidence.
The Zimbabwean international scored the winning goal to give Stellenbosch a hard fought 1-0 victory over Polokwane City on Saturday at Cape Town Stadium.
What makes Karuru’s first goal for Stellenbosch even more staggering is that in the days leading up to their game against Polokwane, he predicted that he would score as all he was talking about during the midweek training sessions was finding the back of the back. Karuru scored on the stroke of half-time.
The midfielder’s winning goal took Stellies to 8th spot on the Absa Premiership log standings.
In December, Karuru parted ways with AmaZulu which came as a surprise as he had featured in 9 out of the club’s 15 games in all competitions proving to be a vital member of the team.
It turned out Usuthu were creating a space for another foreign player, Milos Lacny, who hails from Slovakia.
However, the former Kaizer Chiefs player seems to be enjoying his football at his newly found home in Western Cape and he is already making his presence felt.
