Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco arrived in Egyptian capital Cairo on Saturday (26 September 2020) to start his second spell as coach of five times African champions Zamalek.
Pacheco, who previously guided Zamalek between October and December 2014 succeeds Frenchman Patrice Carteron, who unexpectedly resigned earlier this month to join Saudi side Al Taawun.
“I came back to Egypt because I love Zamalek. My target is to win CAF Champions League”, the Portuguese told the reporters upon his arrival.
Pacheco (62) had numerous spells at home, most prominently with Boavista whom he led to win Portuguese Premier League title in 2000-01. He also had spells with Mallorca (Spain), Al Shabab (Saudi Arabia), Beijing Guoan and Tianjin Teda (China).
Zamalek currently lie second in Egyptian Premier League season, already won by archrivals Al Ahly. They will face Morocco’s Raja in the 2019-20 Total CAF Champions League semifinals scheduled in October.
