Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu is a man on a mission in Belgium with his scintillating form in front of goal for KRC Genk.
The striker has scored 7 goals in 7 games for Genk this season and has a goal involvement that averages a goal every 69 minutes in the Jupiler Pro League.
The 26-year-old was on target as Genk drew 1-1 with Waasland-Beveren which took his tally to seven. The Nigerian is currently the leading top goal scorer in the Belgian top-flight and is just two goals away from equaling his tally of 9 goals from last season. The big striker has played just 414 minutes so far this season.
Onuachu began his career in Nigeria with Ebedei FC before moving abroad to join Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2012 on a scholarship.
In Midtjylland he started with the club’s development side before making his senior team debut in 2013 and going on to play 135 league games scoring 52 goals in the seven years spent at the club.
The striker joined KRC Genk in August 2019 and he has scored 13 league goals in just 27 appearances for Genk. This season looks to be the striker’s best season in his entire career as it is the first time he has scored more than four goals in his first seven games of the season.
The former Midtjylland hitman has not been a regular at international level having only made his Nigerian senior debut in 2019 playing 6 games and scoring a single goal.
Onuachu has narrowly missed out on being part of coach Gernot Rohr’s squad for the friendly matches against Ivory Coast and Tunisia this month, but if he continues with this type of form he should be back in the ‘Super Eagles’ fold very soon.
