Turkish Super Lig side Caykur Rizespor have confirmed that Lebogang Phiri will be out of action for several weeks.
This is a major blow for the 26-year-old who recently completed a move to the Turkish side after leaving French outfit EA Guingamp where his contract came to an end in June.
Phiri signed a three-year contract with Rizespor and immediately flew over to Turkey where he linked up with his new teammates for pre-season.
“Our club doctor Ahmet Edremit has confirmed that our football player Lebogang Phiri has been ruled out due to the injury he suffered to his back muscle in training. Phiri will be out for three weeks as he works towards full recovery,” Rizespor announced in a statement.
Rizespor have made a number of high-profile signings ahead of the 2021/22 season. They kick-off their league campaign with a tough away game against Besiktas on the 13th of August before hosting Fatih Karagumruk eight days later.
Phiri has been having a difficult year due to injuries. He recently recovered from a career threatening knee injury which kept him out of action for almost a year. He will be eager to leave the doctor’s injury bed and make his debut for his new club as soon as possible.
