Orlando Pirates endured a frustrating night, as they could only play to a 1-1 draw against Baroka at the Emirates Airline Park Stadium on Tuesday.
It is Pirates third draw in succession since the resumption of the league as they played out to a goalless stalemate against Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits in their first two games of the restart.
The Soweto giants dominated possession early in the game and broke the deadlock in the 16th-minute through Tshegofatso Mabasa, who netted from a tight angle after intercepting a sloppy back pass by Thamsanqa Masiya that was meant for goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze.
It was Mabasa’s seventh goal of the season and the goal that ended the ‘Buccaneers’ four-match goal drought in the league.
Baroka equalised through Evidence Makgopa, who charged in at the near post to tuck close from close-range in the 35th minute.
Pirates failed to close the gap on second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns to within a point while Baroka, who are in 13th position missed an opportunity to move away from the relegation zone with only four matches remaining.
‘The Buccaneers’ have now gone five matches without a win the league in a poor run of form where they scored one goal.
