Pirates mourn co-funder’s demise

Moneni Pirates are mourning the passing of one of the team co-founders and team elder Eric Mabuza.

Mabuza is celebrated in the Moneni Buccaneers as one of the first elders who formed the team with the late Ngungunyane Matsenjwa in the dusty streets of the township.

Pirates PRO Mhlonishwa Motsa lamented the death of the team’s all-time legend as a tragedy for the team.

“We are greatly disturbed by the loss. Mabuza was a point of reference for the team and a compass for us the new generation as we would turn to him for advice to navigate in tough times,” Motsa told Swazi Observer.

“Mabuza was part of the elders that blessed our restructuring last season in a dinner held at Esibayeni Lodge. ‘We consulted and requested their advice on how we can turn around the team. ‘It saddens us that he will not be around to see the fruits of his sacrifice and hard labour for the team.

“All his sons cut their tooth in the team. We send our condolences to all the children of such a great man and the whole family. He initiated his sons in football and made sure that they get all the support that they need and as a team, we mourn with the family,” he added.

Mabuza is also father of Mbabane Swallows striker Allen and Black Swallows attacking midfielder Mbuso.
