Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has explained why facing Al Ahly would be difficult this time.
The Brazilians have been drawn against the Red Devils of Egypt in the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League.
Al Ahly – winners of the Champions League a record 8 times – will seek revenge following their humiliating 5-1 defeat on aggregate in the quarterfinals last year against Sundowns.
“Yeah, unbelievable draw, this looks like whatever Sundowns do with teams we follow the same teams again.
“It’s what happened with WAC (Wydad Casablanca). We’ve been getting WAC all the time in our group,” noted Mosimane.
“Now the story begins of Al Ahly now – the same as last year. Yeah, same teams, different games, different years with a different mentality – different moods.
“I believe that first Al Ahly did not know us and did not respect us, but after the result last year – we knocked them out in the quarterfinals, the mood is different. They’ll prepare more for us,” he added.
The winner between Sundowns and Al Ahly will face the winner between Wydad and Etoile du Sahel.
The Tshwane side will travel to Egypt for the first leg and host the return leg in Pretoria.
The first leg will be played towards the end of February.
