Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has explained the difference between the Kaizer Chiefs of this season and the one from the previous campaign.
In the 2018/19 season, the Glamour Boys lost their shine and finished 9th in the league.
This season, however, Chiefs are sitting pretty on top of the standings with 22 points from 9 matches, which is 5 points ahead of second-placed Sundowns.
“The difference with Kaizer Chiefs is that they have more spirit now; they have more fight, they pack a good fight, we have to be honest,” said Mosimane, whose side lost 2-0 to Chiefs at Loftus Stadium at the weekend.
“Of course they’ve got a good influence of the coach (Ernst Middendorp), who’s tough – who wants to win. They are more willing – they are stronger than last year, that’s the difference.”
Even though Mosimane insisted that Chiefs are also benefitting from referees’ errors this campaign, he made it clear that he’s not going to discredit their fighting spirit.
“We must never confuse the fight and the will of the team to the mistakes of the referees. Okay, because it would look like I’m discrediting them that they don’t have a fight, no. They have a fight.
“They’ve come back from 1-0 (down) to (win) 2-1 (in past games). I mean, we have to give them credit,” he said.
Mosimane, however, warned that the reigning champions are going to fight until the end to retain the league title.
