Pitso Mosimane is set to miss Al Ahly’s tie against Ghazl Al Mahalla on Friday after testing positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday.
Mosimane has since gone into isolation after receiving his test results on Wednesday afternoon, his club has confirmed.
“Our coach Pitso Mosimane tested positive for Covid-19 and he will start the isolation period according to the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population,” the club said in a statement.
As part of the Egyptian League’s pre-match procedures in light of the Covid-19 outbreak, clubs are required to do mandatory testing ahead of games. Indications are that Mosimane underwent the test ahead of Friday’s fixture.
His assistant Cavin Johnson is expected to guide the Egyptian champions in their second match of the season at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo. They started off the season on a bright note after beating Misr Lel Makkasa 3-1 on Sunday and will be hoping to continue with the winning streak.
Mosimane took over at the Red Devils in October after Swiss coach, René Weiler part ways with the club. The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor won the Egyptian League, the Egypt Cup and the coveted African Champions League, which had eluded the ‘Club of the Century’ since 2013.
