Pitso Mosimane’s Coaching XI


Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is considered a well of wisdom when it comes to coaching.

Most of his players, current and former, hold him in high regard with many raving about his technical and tactical astuteness. His influence has been massive on a number of his players. Some of his former players have followed in his footsteps going into coaching.

Mosimane’s former player – Kaitano Tembo is by far the highest ranking in terms of coaching at a higher level. Tembo, who is in charge of SuperSport United, has on several occasions revealed that he took a lot out of Mosimane’s book. Some of Mosimane’s former players are involved in development sides while others are busy studying towards obtaining coaching qualifications.

FARPost lists Mosimane’s Coaching XI comprising players who are making their way in the coaching world. The list is made of players who played for Mosimane during their time at SuperSport and Sundowns.

GK – Calvin Marlin

Marlin, who played under Mosimane at SuperSport, is currently the coach of GladAfrica championship side, Ajax Cape Town.

RB – Thabo September

The former SuperSport defender is now assisting his former teammate Tembo at Matsatsantsa a Pitori.

CD – Themba Mnguni

The former SuperSport and Sundowns captain is currently working as a coach in Sundowns’ development structures.

CB – Kaitano Tembo

Tembo, who captained Mosimane’s SuperSport, is at the helm of Matsatsantsa a Pitori, a club he has served for 20 years as a player and a coach.

LB – Ricardo Katza   

The three-time PSL champion, who spent some time as a youth coach at SuperSport, is now in charge of football at Grey College in Bloemfontein.

CM – Surprise Moriri

Moriri, one of Sundowns’ most decorated players, is one of the coaches at Sundowns’ development side that competes in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge.

CM –   Maimane Phiri

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder was one of the key players for Mosimane at SuperSport. Phiri is best known for staging one of the biggest township tournaments in South Africa. In addition to running a tournament and managing footballers, Phiri has been studying tactics in quest to make it in the coaching world.

RW – Richard Rantjie

The former South African youth international has been empowering himself with coaching knowledge. Earlier this year Rantjie was doing a SAFA C-License Course, which was held at his home town – Tzaneen.

LW- Daine Klate

Klate, whose career was launched by Mosimane as a teenager, is currently pursuing education in coaching after leaving Chippa United, where he was the side’s MDC coach. Klate recently completed his Irish Football Association UEFA B Diploma coaching qualification.

ST – David Notoane

Towards the end of his football career, Notoane joined Mosimane at SuperSport. Currently he doubles as the coach of Sundowns’ MDC side and the country’s National Under-23 side.

ST – Tsweu Mokoro

Mokoro, a key member of Mosimane’s SuperSport side that did duty in CAF competitions, is now involved as one of the coaches at the SuperSport Academy.
