Ever so honest in his match assessment, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has admitted that they were outplayed by Kaizer Chiefs in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup at FNB Stadium yesterday.
“Chiefs were clinical in the first half. We lost to a good team, powerful team – a very strong team,” said Mosimane after his side’s 4-2 defeat to Amakhosi.
Downs were terrorised by their former players Leonardo Castro, who netted a hattrick and Khama Billiat, who was also on the scoresheet.
“Their CBD were fire. At half time tactics were corrected and we were better, happy we gave everyone a chance to play.
When asked if he still thought Chiefs were the favorites to win the league the coach responded, “They are a hard running very competitive team and they are still the favorites to win the league because not just anybody can score 4 goals against Sundowns,” Mosimane added.
The coach also touched on the performance on Tokelo Rantie saying he wasn’t to too hard on him as he hadn’t been exposed to competitive football for two years.
“We threw him in the deep end too early,” said Mosimane, alluding to the performance of the striker who hardly was able to create a chance.
Interestingly, Chiefs and Sundowns will meet in the Absa Premiership on October 27.
