Banyana Banyana midfielder Jermaine Seoposenwe won another Women of the Match award in Portugal this past weekend.
On Sunday, the former Real Betis attacking midfielder finished the week in fine style with another dominant performance in the middle of the park for SC Braga. The newly crowned Portuguese Cup champions traveled to Maritimo hoping to secure maximum points in the Championship play-off first round.
Although the visitors dominated the ball possession for the majority of the game, it took 83 minutes for the deadlock to be broken. Cindy Konig opened the scoring in fine fashion as she lashed onto a beautifully floated cross from the left wing and met it with a sweet volley into the top corner to give Braga the lead.
Ana Telles sealed all three points with a well placed free-kick from outside the box as Muguel Santos’ charges got off to a good start in the Championship Play-off rounds.
Seoposenwe was once again instrumental, pulling the strings in the middle of the park for the visitors who are enjoying a very good run of form in the league so far. She started and played the entire 90 minutes in the encounter.
After the first round of the Championship round played, SL Benfica leads the pack with three points followed by Braga in second place with the same number of points while Famalicao occupy third spot on the table.
The winners of the round-robin format will clinch the Portuguese League and the European competition qualification spots will also be decided by the end of the season.
A league and cup double is on the cards for the South African who has had a dream start to life in Portugal.
In her first interview after signing a two-year-deal with Braga, Seoposenwe indicated that part of her main goals is winning trophies with the club and she has already achieved that.
She has reached two Cup finals already (won one and lost one) this season and still on course to winning her first league title.
