Kobamelo Kodisang won the man-of-the-match for his outstanding performance in SC Braga B’s tie against Cerveira in the Portuguese third tier on Sunday afternoon.
The Platinum Stars product is now a regular in the reserve team which plays in the country’s third division. He played the entire 90 minutes for Braga as they drew 1-1 against Cerveira in the Campeonato de Portugal on Sunday. The 21-year-old opened the scoresheet after 58 minutes before Cerceira equalised in the 72nd minute of the game. This was the winger’s third league goal of the season in eight games played so far.
Braga has a system of gradually introducing its players to the senior ranks. The club prepares them for first team football in the elite league alongside the likes of SL Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto and Vitoria Guimaraes. Kodisang is in his second season with the club after signing with them in August 2019 from Bidvest Wits. Wits initially loaned the speedy attacker to third division side A.D Sanjoanense where he scored four goals in 23 league appearances in the 2018/19 season. While at Platinum Stars he made his debut at the age of 15 before making a move to Bidvest Wits who later loaned him out to Portugal.
South Africa’s youth teams have had a good few years in terms of qualifying for major tournaments and the attacker is one of the players who have been consistently involved in the youth set-up. In 2015, he was part of the Under 17 squad that qualified for the Under 17 World Cup under coach Molefi Ntseki and he made both the 2017 and 2019 U20 Fifa World Cup squads under coach Thabo Senong.
