Player of the Weekend: Liam Jordan

SA youth international Liam Jordan scored his first league goal of the campaign for his new club Helsingor in Denmark.

The forward netted in the second half of the game as the Danish side won 2-0 against Hvidovre at home on Friday night. Jordan opened the scoring in the 87th minute of the game before New Zealand international Elijah Just extended the lead for the hosts in additional time.

Helsingor sit in fourth position on the log table with 35 points from 21 games played so far. The club has now won five league games in a row. Before this clash, they had defeated FC Kolding, Hobro, Frederecia and Vendsysell.

Jordan joined Helsingor from HB Koge sand signed a long-term contract with the second tier side. Having already scored three league goals for Koge in the first half of the season, the striker has now taken his goal tally to four in the 2020/21 season.

He has now played 92 Danish 1st Division games scoring 15 times while assisting a further 15 strikes since making his debut back in 2018.

Since leaving South Africa to join Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in 2016, It has been quite a journey for the former Bidvest Wits attacker who has grown in leaps and bounds overseas.

Helsingor will hope to continue their form when they take on Skive on Friday evening in the league. Jordan has mostly been used as a substitute since arriving at the club, but with such performances he can claim his place in the starting eleven soon.

South Africa’s national U23 coach David Notoane will be pleased to see his forwards hitting the back of the net more frequently at this important phase of the season. The coach has led the national team to the 2021 Olympics scheduled to be played in Tokyo in July.

Luther Singh (Pacos Ferreira), Gift Links (AGF Aarhus) and Kobamelo Kodisang (Braga B) have also been doing well with their respective clubs.
