Player of the Weekend: Luther Singh

After yet another impressive performance for Pacos de Ferreira this past weekend, Luther Singh is FARPost’s Player of the Weekend.

For the first time this season, the Stars of Africa graduate started on the bench as Ferreira had a tricky trip to Maritimo on Sunday afternoon.

The club has been the surprise package this season as they continue making enroutes into the European spots on the table. Ferreira currently sits in 4th position with 28 points from the 15 games played so far in the Primeira Liga.

Singh came on after 67 minutes replacing Joao Amaral and it took 18 minutes for the Johannesburg-born forward to register his name on the scoresheet. He finished off a beautiful team move inside the box. This was the winger’s second goal of the campaign for Ferreira.

Coach Pedro Costa Filipe has shown a lot of belief in the 23-year-old South African international and he is one of a few players in the entire league to play in all league games this season.

He is currently on his third consecutive loan from his parent club SC Braga. Singh arrived at Braga back in 2017 from Swedish second tier side GAIS after an impressive start to life in Europe with the Swedish Superettan side back in the 2015/16 season.

The winger initially featured for the club’s reserve side for a year until he made a loan move to GD Chaves in January 2019. After six months, Singh was loaned out again, this time to Moreirense where he featured for 21 games scoring three goals and assisting a further three strikes.

This season, Braga have loaned the Bafana Bafana attacker to Pacos Ferreira where he has scored two goals and assisted another in 15 games.

At international level, Singh has recently been drafted into the Bafana Bafana squad by coach Molefi Ntseki who has been looking to introduce young players into the national team set-up going to the 2021 Afcon and 2022 Fifa World Cup.
