After yet another match-winning performance for Pacos Ferreira in Portugal, Luther Singh is the Player of the Weekend.
The Stars of Africa graduate scored his fifth goal of the season and laid an assist for another strike as Ferreira thumped FC Moreirense 3-0 away from home on Saturday evening.
He started his 24th league game of the season and remains the only player in the team to have played in all league games so far this season.
Twelve minutes into the game, Brazilian striker Douglas Tanque opened the scoring from the penalty spot after he was brought down in the box.
Singh doubled the advantage for the visitors in the 20th minute before the Bafana Bafana winger turned provider for the third goal scored by Helder Ferreira just before the half time break. The visitors held on to take three very important points and keep themselves in the top five sides in the division.
With this victory, Ferreira remain fifth on the Primeira Liga standings with 44 points from the 24 games played so far. They are on course to qualifying for continental football next season and Singh has played a major role in their resurgence. After the international break, Pepa’s troops have an away trip to Famalicao on the 3rd of April.
South Africa take on Ghana and Sudan in two crucial Afcon 2021 qualifiers and Singh is part of the players that have been called up by coach Molefi Ntseki. On Thursday, Bafana Bafana will host the Black Stars of Ghana before facing Sudan away from home three days later.
Ghana lead Group C with nine points followed by South Africa with the same number of points. Sudan is in third place with six points while Sao Tome ePrincipe is rooted at the bottom of the standings with no point.
