Thembi Kgatlana was awarded another Woman of the Match award in Spain.
The Banyana Banyana striker put in another impressive shift for SD Eibar as they got back to winning ways with a 1-0 win away at Real Sociedad in the league on Sunday.
With 19 minutes gone on the clock, Kgatlana played a perfectly weighted pass to Sara Navarro Rivera who made no mistake from close range and put the ball in the back of the net to give the visitors the lead. The strike was enough to give Eibar three well-deserved points on the road.
Eibar have now moved up to 12th position on the log with 26 points from 25 games played. Sociedad, on the other hand remained in fifth place with 48 points from the same number of games.
This was the South African’s sixth assist of the season and it took her overall goal contribution to 16 goals. She has netted 10 Primera Division goals and assisted another six strikes. Some of her goals have come against the league’s biggest clubs.
She has netted against FC Barcelona, Madrid CFF, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and her assist against Sociedad means she has made a goal contribution against all the top five teams in the division this season.
This has raised speculation that one of the big clubs will come for her signature at the end of the current season.
It’s been a great start to life in the Spanish top flight for the 24-year-old who has taken the division by storm since signing from SL Benfica last year. Alongside her compatriot Noko Matlou, they have both become regulars in coach Jon Gallego’s starting line-up.
Next up for Eibar is a home game against Athletic Bilbao on the 18th of April and they will hope to get another three points which will push them further up the log standings.
