The 2020/21 GladAfrica Championship has delivered surprising results and stunning performances.
Still, the season has offered plenty of thinking for spectators and the general public. One the early pacesetters, Jomo Cosmos have gone with their business quietly, and have all asking whether they can sustain this momentum.
FARPost Technical Study Group (TSG) will look at the key players who have made Cosmos perform with such distinction.
1. Ayanda Gcaba
The tall and imposing central figure has been magnificent for ‘Ezenkosi’ in this campaign. Gcaba has brought calmness in the build up play, tenacity in the defensive phase and mental fortitude to the central defensive corridor.
His experience and aerial qualities have rubbed viciously on his defensive partners.
2. Seun Ledwaba
The former Mamelodi Sundowns youth academy player has grown in leaps and bounds in the Cosmos midfield. Blessed with a superb ambidextrous (uses both feet) ability it allows him to control the midfield centre efficiently.
Ledwaba maturity and tactical understanding of the deep lying central position, is characterized by the cleverness to play short, combinations and diagonal passes in that hurt teams.
3. Ricardo Versuur
The Warrenton-boy rightback has shown consistency and made the fullback position his own. Versuur has ensured that Cosmos tactical attacking plan on the wings is maintained and has contributed immensely.
His ability to perform both overlaps and underlaps, makes him dangerous and important attacking player for Ezenkosi.
4. Moeketsi Sekola
The gangling striker, Sekola has been resurrected in the final attacking third. He gives the enterprising players around him to play combinations and join intelligently in attack.
Besides acting as the tactical focal point for Cosmos, Sekola has scored crucial goals essential in the title push.
5. Cosmos v Royal AM
Cosmos welcome the inconsistent Royal AM this afternoon (15:00) at Olen Park stadium in the North West, and a win today will entrench their credentials as a genuine contender for the title.
