The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) have resolved that there will be no relegation in the MTN National First Division League this season.
The decision was taken during their annual general meeting (AGM).
Four teams were supposed to be relegated from this division to ply trade in the super leagues but the PLE affiliates decided that no team is going down to super leagues that are currently suspended owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This means the PLE Executive Committee led by Mark Carmichael must now convey the decision to the football mother body, being the Eswatini Football Association (EFA).
This is because the relegation of the four teams in enshrined in the league’s rules and regulations. However, the feeling among PLE members was that it defied logic to relegate four teams from the first division to leagues that are currently not active as they were put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The meeting then resolved that this issue be discussed further with the EFA with the proposal that the 14 teams competing in the first division be maintained as they active unlike those supposed to be promoted from the inactive super leagues.
