The Absa Premiership strugglers Polokwane City have reportedly closed in on the signing of Malawian international defender Chembezi Denis from Blantyre giants.
Be Forward Wanderers FC team manager Victor Maunde told FARPost that Polokwane City have put on the table a three-year contract offer for the versatile player who can play as a wing-back or centre-back.
“He went to Polokwane as a matter of formality otherwise they have offered him an outright contract. As I am speaking to you, Chembezi is
on his way back to Malawi waiting for the chairman (Gift Mkandawire) to agree with Polokwane on the transfer fee.
“Polokwane made an offer and Wanderers want the offer to be upped a bit and that is what has delayed the transfer,” Maunde said.
Former Rise and Shine striker Esau Kanyenda has brokered Chembezi’s imminent transfer to the bottom-placed PSL team.
Kanyenda told the press in Malawi that Chembezi has agreed on personal terms with Polokwane and the deal is subject to the two clubs agreeing on the transfer fee.
The former Jomo Cosmos striker (Kanyenda) played for Wanderers for two years until 2018 after leaving the Limpopo-based side.
Chembezi, 23, is part of the Malawi national football team squad that is competing in Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers. The young defender signed for Wanderers, the six-time Malawi league champions and three years ago from Wizards FC who evolved from an
academy team to earn Super League promotion.
