Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki has given an update on the state of readiness of the national team for Friday night’s AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome ePrincipe at the Moses Mabhida stadium.
South Africa had a rocky start to their preparations earlier this week with many players having to pull out of the camp for various reasons.
As far as preparations are concerned the Bafana Bafana mentor feels they are on the right track and he is happy that the whole squad is now in camp after the late arrival of Scotland-based midfielder Bongani Zungu.
“Yeah I think by late yesterday (yesterday) we saw the arrival of Bongani Zungu who was a late arrival after traveling for hours traveling from Scotland. We are happy that the whole squad is here, we will have our last preparation session today with the 25 players that we have called up to this camp,” said Ntseki.
“The preparations have been going very well, they’re looking forward to it, there is a lot of interest coming from the players in terms of doing well for the country and doing well for themselves. We are fully aware of the challenges that come with it, we’re playing Sao Tome – a very difficult team, but all that is important is for us to get maximum points in the two matches,” he continued.
To stand any chance of going top of the group South Africa need to collect maximum points and with Ghana having collected 6 points already it is going to be a serious battle for top spot in group C.
The ‘Black Stars’ play home and away against Sudan in the other group fixtures and the former U17 coach knows what needs to be done. “I think we have prepared well mentally, tactically and physically so we will be able to execute the plan on Friday and another plan will come for the game on Monday. Let us all go out there, enjoy ourselves and support the national team with the belief that we will get maximum points.”
Kickoff at Moses Mabhida Stadium is scheduled for 21H00 local time and due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic the game will be played behind closed doors.
