PREVIEW: SA footballers abroad


FARPost previews the weekend matches involving SA footballers overseas this weekend.


SA winger Keagan Dolly has started the season at a 100% in France as he looks to finally make his mark for Montpellier since joining the club in January of 2017 from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Dolly has made only 32 league senior appearances for the former French champions with injuries mostly responsible for his slow start in France.

The winger had a full preseason and has made a substitute appearance for the club in their 2-1 match day 1 loss against Stade Rennes.

With Florent Millet out due to suspension Dolly is expected to step up into the starting IX today against OGC Nice as Montpellier looks to get back into winning ways.


This coming Sunday 8th placed RSC Anderlecht host 7th placed Cercle Brugge. The two clubs are level on points with 6 points each after 4 games played, but Brugge has a better goal difference.

Tau will be looking to continue his form against Brugge after the 26-year-old scored two goals in his first 3 games of the season for Anderlecht.

Tau has made two substitute appearances for Anderlecht with his only start coming in Anderlecht’s 2-2 draw away at KV Oostende.


Swedish Allsvenskan new boys Varbergs BoIS have had a good start to life in the top flight sitting 10th on the log table with 6 wins, 5 draws and 7 draws after 18 games played, 23 points earned in total.

South African trio of Luke Le Roux , Tashreeq Matthews and Keanin Ayer have all been involved in the club’s success so far with Ayer playing 14 games, Le Roux 18 games and Matthews playing 13 games scoring a goal and assisting a further two.

Before the break Varbergs defeated Sirius 2-0 to get all three points with Le Roux playing 90 minutes, Ayer 46 minutes while Matthews featured as a 75th minute substitute.

On Sunday, the trio will certainly be involved against Mjallby as all of them are 100% fit.


After a three-week break the Danish Superliga is returning to action and former Cape Town City winger Gift Links will be raring to go after he scored a beautiful goal last weekend in a 2-0 friendly win against FC Nordsjaelland in Aarhus’s final preparation game.

Since joining Aarhus in August 2019 Links has made 20 league appearances for the club scoring a single goal so far, it is good to note that he has started three consecutive games for the club and with his form he is expected to be in coach David Nielsen’s starting IX against Vejle.


Swedish top flight side Djurgaden DFF will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after their humiliating 3-0 away at Rosengard two weeks ago.

Djurgaden sit 8th in the Damallsvenskan with 16 points gained after 14 games so far in the league. Banyana Banyana midfielder Linda Motlhalo has established herself as a key member of the squad since joining the club earlier this year – she has played 11 games scoring 1 goal so far.

The former Beijing BG Phoenix midfielder has also featured once in the Swedish cup where she stole the show with a beautiful brace that ultimately earned her a place as a regular player in the league so far this season – she is expected to start again against Göteborg on Sunday afternoon.
