PSL referee honoured by his village

The community of Ka-Chavani village, Limpopo gathered at the Brothers Soccer ground on Wednesday to honour one of their own, Jelly Chavani.

The ceremony was organised by the local residents as well as the surrounding areas to celebrate Chavani’s 2019/20 PSL referee of the year award.

The 24-year-old was born and raised in the area.

The event was graced by deputy minister of finance, Dr David Masondo, representatives from Makhado Municipality Mayor, Chief Chavani, Chief Bungeni, Safa Vhembe region George Kubayi, former safa head of referees Tenda Masikhwa and Chavani’s colleagues.

“I am overwhelmed by this occasion,” Chavani told the members of the community and dignitaries that gathered at the venue.

“More importantly I am grateful to the village for showing me so much love and support as their son. I hope this will inspire young people from this community to work hard and know that it is possible for every child to achieve their dreams, as long as they remain disciplined,” said Chavani.

Chavani started refereeing at amatuer  level in the 2011 season until he was promoted to officiate in the PSL in 2017.

He was recently honoured at the Limpopo Sports awards with an MEC Special award by the Limpopo MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Thandi Moraka.
