Ivan Rakitic celebrated his 300th game for Barcelona in emphatic style as the Spanish giants thrashed Real Mallorca 4-0 at the Son Moix Stadium on Saturday evening to extend their advantage at the top of La Liga to five points over Real Madrid.
After three months away from football due to the coronavirus pandemic, Rakitic finally completed his third century of games for Barcelona since arriving from Sevilla in 2014.
“Happy to be back on the pitch. Important victory tonight and really proud to have reached 300 official games with FC Barcelona,” said the Croatian midfielder.
Rakitic is now the fourth non-Spaniard with the most appearances for Barcelona, topped only by Lionel Messi, Dani Alves (391) and Javier Mascherano (334). And he has the fifth highest number out of players in the current squad, only behind Messi, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué, and Jordi Alba.
In 300 games in the blaugrana jersey, Rakitic has scored 35 and provided 39 assists. The Croatian midfielder has also won the Champions League with Barcelona and La Liga on four occasions.
The 32-year-old’s contact at Camp Nou expires in 2021 and the Croatian international says he is still very much happy at Barca.
“Staying at Barcelona is the plan. With the coronavirus crisis going on, a lot will be new for us players and for the Spanish clubs My head and heart are clear at Barca.
“I’m open to everything, but I don’t want to look too far ahead. Now I want to enjoy the moment after the hard time with the coronavirus pandemic. Everyone who knows me knows how crazy I am about football,” concluded Rakitic.
