Kaizer Chiefs’ veteran defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele will make the traveling party on Wednesday as the club jets off to Morocco for a Caf Champions League opening group stage clash with Wydad Casablanca on Saturday.
Chiefs are expected to touch down in Casablanca on Thursday afternoon, giving the team a full day to acclimatise before the encounter. The match is set for the Mohammed V Stadium at 21h00 (CAT).
Coach Gavin Hunt will be pleased to welcome back ‘Rama’ who has been sidelined by an injury in the last few games. He limped off injured on January 19 during a tie against TTM due to a hamstring injury.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns captain was named in the traveling party of 18 players.
Chiefs are in Group C for the 2020/21 CAF Champions League alongside Wydad, Guinean side Horoya and Angola’s Petro de Luanda.
This will be Amakhosi’s second trip to Morocco after they previously faced Raja Casablanca in the CAF Champions League first round in 2015.
The Soweto giants are the sixth South African team to play in the group stages of Africa’s premier club football competition after Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, Manning Rangers, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United.
