Real Madrid eased past Éibar at the Di Stéfano Stadium on their return to La Liga action on Sunday evening and captain Sergio Ramos says it’s a big positive for Spain to have football back.

First half goals from Toni Kroos, Ramos and Marcelo sealed a comfortable 3-1 victory for Madrid as the Spanish giants narrowed the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona to two points.

“We felt in good shape. We’ve worked hard in recent weeks to recover some of the form we’ve lost, but the team has gradually started to get back into a rhythm and to play as well as we possibly can,” said Ramos.

“Now we have to get back to work because the next match is on Thursday and we have to be ready. I picked up a bit of a knock, it’s just a strain,” – Ramos. Picture: Real Madrid.

“I’m happy to be back and to have got all three points. We’ve got 10 finals to come and we have to try and win the lot.

“For us to set foot on the pitch again is a huge blessing. And, to provide entertainment and get business and the economy back up and running so that everything returns to its natural place. It’s important for everyone,” added the Madrid captain.

Zinedine Zidane admitted that his side struggled in the second half but will take the positive from the first half.

“This is a completely different thing to what we experienced before. We have to adapt and it’s true that we started the game very well, but it was difficult in the second half,” he said.

“We’re well prepared, but there were a lot of small elements involved and we weren’t very sharp. I’ll take the good things from the first half because it was very good, we were very strong. It’s an important victory, it’s three very important points and we’ve now got ten matches left”.

“We know the situation, it’s a bit weird for everyone [playing without fans] and the players have to adapt to it. I think this is also going to be the case until the end of the season, so we have to get used to it because it will be the case until the end of the season,” concluded Zidane.
