FARPost can confirm that a request by the Limpopo provincial government to offer the late Bafana Bafana international defender a special official funeral has been declined by the South African national government.
Madisha died following a vehicle accident on 12 December 2020.
An application for an official provincial funeral for the 25-year-old was submitted soon after his death, but could not be processed as there was no confirmation of a date for his funeral.
But upon the confirmation of Madisha’s death by the family, a second application was submitted earlier this week.
This publication has seen a correspondence from the SA office of the Presidency declining the application.
“I regret to inform you that after careful consideration The Presidency has not approved the request to declare the funeral of Mr. Motjeka Madisha as a special official funeral,” read the letter to the Limpopo Provincial office.
Madisha represented South Africa through all the junior age group levels and had seven caps for the senior national team, scoring one goal.
He will be buried on Saturday at Ga-Madisha-Leolo Village, 70km outside of Polokwane.
