Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has been chosen as the new captain of SuperSport United.

Williams is replacing midfielder Dean Furman who is leaving the club at the end of the current campaign to start a family in Europe.

Dean Furman is returning to the UK when his contract expires on 30 June 2020.

Speaking to FARPost, Matsatsantsa CEO Stan Matthews said for this season Furman will continue to lead the team.

“Dean is our captain and will remain so until next season.” he said.

Pressed further on if Williams will be the one taking over the captaincy once Furman leaves, Matthews said.”Yes of course, he is the natural successor…longest-serving player, academy product, most capped player in SuperSport history, most capped player at his age, 10 Cup finals and 5 trophies under his belt at the age of 26…developed into a fine leader…easy choice.”

Ronwen Williams has played over 300 games for SuperSport and signed a new long-term contract recently.

When contacted by this website, Williams confirmed the news.

“Yes, but nothing confirmed yet.”
