Richard’s Bay look to maintain top spot

Belaugered Bizana Pondo Chiefs will welcome high flying Richards Bay FC on Saturday at King Zwelithini Stadium, in a GladAfrica Championship clash at 15h30.

The two teams have contrasting fortunes in the South African second division with the Eastern Cape side enduring tough times and having recently parted ways with their coach Tshepo Motsonoeng.

While the Natal Rich Boys have enjoyed a rich vein of form in both the league and Nedbank Cup.

Richard’s Bay booted out South Africa’s record cup winners Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup and recently qualified for the quarterfinals after dispatching TS Sporting 2-1.

The Indomitable Lions of Skomplaz will pin their hopes on the newly appointed Caretaker Coach, Julius Dube who believes that they can turn the stones into bread.

Pondo Chiefs will be hoping to surprise their opponents who occupy the number one spot on the log, while the hosts are rooted at the bottom of the log.

Richard’s Bay have won almost half of their games and just lost twice in 15 matches. Pondo Chiefs have played one match less but their worry will be the eight defeats they have already suffered and the disjointed defence that has let in an avalanche of goals.

The last time these teams met a 4-1 score line in favour of the log leaders was the end result and this will be Dube’s first match incharge.

The Indomitable Lions will be boosted by the return of the experienced goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela and Captain of the club, Innocent “Lulo” Ngcobo.
