Riekerink: We’re not safe yet

Cape Town City Coach Jan Olde Riekerink has warned his side to forget about their big 2-0 win over Bidvest Wits, and now put all their focus on their upcoming clash against Black Leopards when the two sides meet on Friday night at the Cape Town Stadium.

The Citizens produced what was arguably their best perfomance of the 2019/20 season when they shocked title chasing Wits 2-0 last weekend on Saturday.

But the Dutch mentor says though he was pleased with the victory and by the performance of his team, the season is far from over and the club is not yet safe from relegation even though the momentum is with City going into this game.

The Citizens beat Wits 2-0 in their last match.

“I can feel it (momentum) but we still have a lot to do and to perfom on match day. I told the players also we’re not yet out of the problems, but we have now the perspective to get our of it, “said Riekerink.

The victory over Wits moved City to 20 points but just 3 points above 16th placed AmaZulu and just 1 behind their neighbours Stellenbosch FC who are on 21 points after 19 games.

City have also picked up 7 points out of a possible 12 in their last 4 Absa Premiership games of the New Year.

A victory against ‘Lidoda Duvha’ would take City up to 9th place on the log but the Citizens boss says they are anticipating a tough clash against the Limpopo side.

Kick off is at 20:00 and there will be no broadcast of the game on television.
