Riots erupt in Paris as PSG fans show frustrations

Masses of Paris Saint-Germain fans clashed with French police on Sunday after their team lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final in Lisbon.

Around 5 000 supporters had gathered at Paris’s Parc des Princes stadium to cheer on PSG, lighting flares and chanting as they watched on a big screen.

But after the France Champions were denied their first ever Champions League title, clashes then erupted where vehicles were set on fire, windows broken and shops vandalised by the angry supporters.

Police said 151 people, including 49 minors, were arrested in particular for damage, violence or throwing projectiles.

PSG were trying to end decades of gloating from bitter rival Marseille — still the only French club to have won the competition in 1993.

Meanwhile, the defeat was met with huge celebrations in Marseille, where fans cheered and let off flares and fireworks.
