Riyad Mahrez is looking forward to the Manchester derby at Etihad on Sunday.
The Algerian winger is full of confidence after being voted as the Man of the Match in Tuesday night’s home win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Mahrez scored the third goal of the match as the Citizens romped to a 4-1 victory to continue their dominance in the Premier League.
Manchester City has been ruthless in the league this season and sit at the summit of the table with 65 points after 27 Premier League games.
“It is a derby and we know it means a lot to the fans. We are going to try and enjoy today and then we will start to focus on United.
“It is going to be another tough game, different, but tough as well, so we will see.
“If we win on Sunday, it will be good, but we know we are not at that point yet and we have to recover today and try to be ready for then.”
He has netted seven league goals and assisted another four strikes in 21 games. After City’s triumph against Wolves, Pep Guardiola labelled the winger as a ‘special talent’.
“The last games were outstanding. He played really well. He has a special quality.
“He is a guy who dances on the pitch. He doesn’t lose balls on the pitch. He makes the extra pass. He attracts opponents on the pitch and after he makes a pass in behind. He makes fantastic crosses. We knew it.
“At Leicester, he was outstanding with Jamie Vardy. That’s why we pushed for him. We hope he can continue.”
Manchester United fumbled an opportunity to close the gap with their neighbours when they drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday evening.
Ahead of Sunday’s game, City has a 14-point gap at the top and a win will see them inch even closer to clinching the title.
