Fresh from beating TS Galaxy 1-0 away from home, Stellenbosch have reason to believe that they can make it two wins in a row in the DStv Premiership and finish the year 2020 on a high.
Stellenbosch captain Robyn Johannes has declared himself pleased with his side’s start to the 2020/21 season but believes there is plenty of room for improvement.
Sitting in the top half of the league standings with eight points after two wins, two draws and two losses, Johannes said ‘Stellies’ are fully focussed on what lies ahead rather than anything else as they prepare to welcome Cape Town City on Tuesday in the Western Cape Derby at the Danie Craven Stadium.
“Look, I think we’re averaging something like just over one point a game at the moment, yes, ideally we’d look for a greater return,” said the veteran defender.
“However, considering the fact that we’ve played 4 games away from home coupled with the likes of the opposition that we’ve come across [Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United], I’d say we’ve done okay, not great, but relatively well considering the circumstances.”
The 34-year-old has featured in six league matches for the Stellenbosch-based outfit, netting a single goal.
“We also find ourselves in the top 8 at the moment with an opportunity to finish off the year strongly – which we will look to do.
“For now, it’s a game-by-game focus and that focus is on Cape Town City next week Tuesday,” concluded Johannes.
