SA ABROAD: Player of the Weekend

After yet another Man of the Match award this weekend from his performance in the Portuguese Primeira Liga against Moreirense, Stars of Africa graduate Thibang Phete is FARPost‘s footballer of the weekend abroad.

Phete was a rock at the back for Belenenses leading the defence by example from the first whistle – although they ended up narrowly losing 1-0 on the day.

When Belenenses were pushing for an equaliser ‘Cafu’ converted to a more attacking role and had an opportunity to score when he found himself one on one with the goalkeeper but the keeper fouled him for a penalty which was eventually missed by Nuno Miguel Coelho in additional time.

This was Phete’s third Man of the Match award in 2020 and he has made it into the Team of the Week on two occasions.

Here is Phete’s statistics in detail from the game :

Minutes – 90

Pass accuracy – 90%

Total number of passes – 70

Aerial duels won – 2

Shots taken – 1

Long balls – 6

Fouled – 4 times

Interceptions made -1

No other player on the field completed more passes than the South African defender.
