SA ABROAD: Preview of weekend matches

After their 1-0 loss against Madrid CFF last week Thembi Kgatlana’s Eibar will be traveling away to face Espanyol in Barcelona hoping for a better result.

FARPost looks at Kgatlana’s weekend involvement, as well as that of other South Africans overseas.

ESPANYOL vs EIBAR

SATURDAY, 31ST OCTOBER

13:00 PM (SA TIME)

Thembi Kgatlana is yet to make a start for Eibar this season although she has come off the bench a few times. With Eibar lacking goals up front and the attacker recently salvaging a point in additional time against Levante in the league the coach might give her a start on Saturday against Espanyol.

GLASGOW RANGERS vs KILMARNOCK

SUNDAY, 1ST NOVEMBER

14:00 PM (SA TIME)

It’s been a very eventful week for Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu who joined Rangers just over two weeks ago, but had to be quarantined for two weeks before joining up with his teammates this week for his first two training sessions. Zungu also made the bench for the Scottish giants on Thursday in their 1-0 win over Lech Poznan in the UEFA Europa League.

Rangers have a 6-point lead over rivals Celtic in the league and this coming Sunday will be hoping to extend that lead by getting a victory against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premier League.

RSC ANDERLECHT vs ROYAL ANTWERP

SUNDAY, 1ST OCTOBER

14:30 PM (SA TIME)

Percy Tau’s Anderlecht have a tricky game against Belgian log leaders Antwerp on Sunday at home. Antwerp have been dominant this season in the league having won 6 of their opening 10 games while drawing two and losing just two games so far. Tau will be full of confidence after scoring a beautiful goal against KV Kortrijk last Friday in the league. On Thursday, the goal was also nominated for the October club Goal of the Month alongside other beautiful strikes from his teammates.

Anderlecht go into the game sitting in 7th place with 17 points from their first 10 games of the season.

GIL VICENTE vs VITORIA GUIMARAES

SUNDAY, 1ST OCTOBER

19:30 PM (SA TIME)

After a narrow loss against SC Braga last Sunday, Vitoria Guimaraes will be looking to get back to winning ways against mid-table Gil Vicente on Sunday evening. Guimaraes has been one of the most inconsistent teams in the league this season. Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster will be back in the match day squad for the first time since returning from national team duty with a back injury that he got against Zambia while on international duty.

Foster is still looking for his first goal in Guimaraes colours and will be looking at using such games to open his account in the Portuguese top flight.

ESKILSTUNA vs DJURGARDEN DFF

SUNDAY, 1ST NOVEMBER

14:30 PM (SA TIME)

Djurgaden have had a bad run of results in recent weeks with two consecutive defeats against Orebro and Linkoping in the Damallsvenskan. The game against Eskilstuna will be a perfect opportunity for the club to get back to winning ways in the league. Linda Motlhalo is a regular in coach Joel Riddez’s starting XI and will be keen to help the team get the required results on Sunday afternoon.

CASTELVECCHIO vs AC MILAN

SUNDAY, 1ST OCTOBER

15:30 PM (SA TIME)

At the back of thumping home town rivals Inter Milan 4-1 in the league, AC Milan will be high on confidence when they take on Castelvecchio on Sunday in the Italian Cup.

Banyana Banyana midfielder Refiloe Jane will be anchoring the Milan midfield as she has done for the past year. The 28-year-old scored her first goal for the Italian side against Empoli two weeks ago and she will be eager to continue where she left off.
