SA football legends grace Mabena Soccer Challenge


The seventh annual Mabena Soccer Challenge came to an end this past weekend after two weeks of football activities.

Mashamba Soccer Academy were crowned Champions after beating Masakona Young Tigers 1-0 in the final at Mashamba village. They walked away with R25 000 while Masakona pocked R15 000.

Fans were also entertained with a curtain-raiser match involving traditional leaders and local community Masters teams.

A PSL legends team led by Lovers Mohlala also played against the Mashamba legends.

Players such as Doctor Khumalo, Joel ‘Fire’ Masilela, Jacob Tshisevhe, Magic Ratshivhadelo, Christopher ‘Matari’ Netshidzivhe, Steve Lekoelea, Edward and Japie Motale, Lucky Lekgwathi, Tonic Chabalala and others.

The 16-team tournament was founded in 2014 in honour of late goalkeeper joseph ‘Mabena’ Mashamba.
