SA midfielder on verge of joining Polish side

FARPost can confirm that South Africa’s Thabo Cele is close to joining Poland Premier League club, Radomiak Radom.

The 24-year-old has been a free agent since his contract with Portuguese side Cova da Piedade ended in June 2021.

Cele was part of the SA’s U23 squad that participated in the just-ended Tokyo Olympics Games held in Japan.

The ever-reliable midfielder became a key member of David Notoane’s side despite the poor results at the Olympics.

Cele has been training with the Polish outfit since Monday and has impressed the club’s head coach Dariusz Banasik.

“I like him, he is a valuable player. I saw his games at Olympics, I know his quality. We just want to see him with the team, on trainings and there is very positive impression. It’s quite possible that he will stay with us,” said Banasik.

The KZN Football Academy graduate also played for Real SC and Benfica B before joining Cova da Piedade.

Many would describe Cele as a consistent performer, who possesses technical abilities in tight spaces that very few can match from the Amaglug-glug Olympics squad.
